In the camera’s default state, it pans around 50+ acres of fields. Over the past few years, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and Southwest Virginia Sportsmen have at various times throughout the elk cam season, taken manual control of the camera to intentionally zoom in on elk in the fields, which greatly enhances the experience for viewers who are tuned in at those times. Realizing the potential to increase the number of viewers who could benefit from these enhanced elk cam experiences, we have teamed up to provide a notification system for interested elk cam enthusiasts.

Each notification will consist of one SMS text message, alerting you to tune into the Virginia Elk Cam and providing the link to do so. We anticipate no more than 10-15 texts per month. By signing up for Virginia Elk Cam notifications, please note you can remove yourself from the list or re-sign up for the list any time.

The intention of the Virginia Elk Cam notifications is not to alert viewers every single time elk are on camera. It is only to alert folks when Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources or Southwest Virginia Sportsmen take manual control of the camera to zoom-in on elk.
